Our Heritage & Grounds

Woodside Cemetery was designed by Stuart Murray, curator of Glasgow Botanic Gardens, and opened in 1845. It’s stunning 20 acre grounds, tree lined pathways and remembrance gardens were inspired by The Glasgow Necropolis. Almost a century later, in 1938, local architect James Steel Maitland designed the purpose built crematorium at the top of the hill with stunning views across Paisley. To date over 119,000 funerals have taken place here and in 2020 Martyr’s Chapel underwent significant refurbishment to become a modern committal and service hall.
